This is my wife’s 2012 Ford Flex Limited with the 3.5 EcoBoost V6. I’m planning to do a video review of it for Right Foot Down, and I’m looking for inspiration. What do you want to know about it? Obviously how awesome the motor is will be part of it, but what else?

tl:dr; Ford Flex AMA

Does it actually flex or is it just false advertising?

I’ve never been in one. Is it as practical as the exterior styling suggests? It has such a simple shape to it, and that makes it looks like a very genuine, no-nonsense, multifunction vehicle. In a way, it reminds me of my old square-body Suburban.

Practical gas mileage? Repairs? Bad weather handling?

Why should I buy this over a full size crossover?

How have the running costs and reliability been?

I am typing this while sitting comfortably in its back seat after consuming enough alcohol that I should not drive. Even without the booze, I have plenty of room.

Running sweep was absolutely a consideration!

Hmm. That I don't know. Who makes a skid plate for a Flex?

AWD or no?

How’s it do in the snow?

Does it have the bench seat or captains+console?

Do you guys have kids? Do you wish it had a minivan slider door vs normal door?

Can you turn off the Traction Control and rip your tires for a block or so?

AWD.

We didn’t get a lot of snow this past winter, but it was good in what we did get. It came with all-season tires and we haven’t gotten dedicated snows, but it still did just fine.

Bench seat.

She has two pre-existing conditions kids. Minivan doors are meh. She hates minivans with a passion, and probably wouldn’t have gotten the Flex if it was too minivan-like.

I haven’t played with traction control much (again, not a very snowy winter), but I have pushed the button and done a mad drift or two. :D

What attracted you to the Flex in the first place?

My wife’s first choice was a Tahoe/Yukon, but at $50k they’re way too expensive these days. The Flex is similarly big and much less expensive. It’s also a lot more car-like, which is a good thing for our purposes since the most off-roading we do is grassy parking lots and the occasional dirt road.

Not a question, but letting you know I started “Punch Flex” with my wife and now my immediate family all plays. Not enough Beetles left on the road for “Punch Buggy”, and a Flex is fairly distinct (esp with the white roof ones). but gotta watchout for false punches for Land Rovers, Scions, etc at a distance.

That’s funny! I’m glad you recognize that modern Beetles, even the nice ones, are still not true Punch Buggies.
